Our Principles
BetterLifeLoops is built on one idea: help people take one better step. These principles define how Compass works and what we commit to every user.
1. What Compass is
Compass is a deterministic goal engine. It matches your goal to a domain, selects the best next action from a library of validated steps, and adapts based on your feedback. It does not use generative AI to produce advice. Every step returned by Compass was written and reviewed by humans.
2. What Compass is not
Compass is not a medical service, therapist, counsellor, or crisis line. It is not a substitute for professional mental health care. It cannot diagnose conditions, recommend treatments, or provide clinical guidance. If you need professional support, please seek it.
3. Safety first
Crisis detection runs before everything else. If your input signals immediate danger, self-harm, or a mental health crisis, Compass will not generate a goal step. You will be directed to real human support and crisis resources immediately. This cannot be bypassed.
4. Your data stays with you
All loop data is stored on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers without your knowledge. We do not sell, share, or monetize your goal data. Your goals are private by default.
5. Honest about limitations
Compass covers 300+ goal domains but not every situation a person faces. When a goal falls outside what Compass can handle well, it will not pretend otherwise. It will offer general support or direct you to better resources rather than return a misleading step.
6. No medical, legal, or financial advice
Compass does not provide medical, legal, financial, or clinical advice. Steps related to health, relationships, or finances are general behaviour suggestions only. They are not professional recommendations. Always consult a qualified professional for decisions in these areas.
7. Sensitive topics handled with care
Goals related to mental health, addiction, grief, relationships, or identity are handled with extra care. Compass will not trivialise these topics with generic productivity advice. For sensitive domains, Compass acknowledges the difficulty and may suggest professional support alongside any step.
8. Always improving
Compass learns from aggregate feedback to improve step quality. No individual goal data is used to train models or shared externally. Improvements are made by the team based on simulation testing and safety review.
If you have a concern
If Compass ever returns a step that feels wrong, harmful, or inappropriate, please let us know. Your feedback directly improves the system and protects other users.
