For IT and network administrators

Compass is an ordinary web page. There is nothing to install, no browser extension, and students do not create an account. A student's work is kept in their own browser's local storage and stays there; the page sends nothing about it anywhere. It loads no third-party scripts, trackers or analytics, and its typeface is served from this site rather than fetched from Google, so opening the page makes no request to any outside domain. The only external address on it is the crisis-helpline directory findahelpline.com, and that is a link a person chooses to click. If anonymous usage counting is switched on later, it is built so it cannot carry free text: the server accepts only a fixed set of coded values and rejects anything else before storing it, so what a student types can never be sent. Teachers who sign in do have an account; students never do. Details: Privacy and Safety.
